A Birthday Swim with Kushi Leggo at Turimetta Beach

It’s not every day you get to photograph someone on their birthday, but the stars aligned for this shoot with Kushi Leggo from Scoop Management. With perfect weather and an early morning call, we headed to Turimetta Beach, one of Sydney’s most stunning and secluded coastal spots, for this special birthday session.

Kushi was a joy to work with, as always. Anyone dedicated enough to wake up before dawn on their birthday for a shoot is here to put in the work, and it showed. Her ease in front of the camera is remarkable, combining grace with genuine dedication to her craft.

The shoot started with soft, golden light at Turimetta, capturing Kushi in a vibrant yellow one-piece from Gooseberry Swim. Later, we moved to nearby Warriewood Beach, where the break offered a calmer spot for swimming and dynamic water shots. For this segment, Kushi wore a green bikini from Triangl, a brand she regularly collaborates with.

All images were shot entirely on 35mm film using my trusty Canon EOS 3, primarily with the 24-70mm f/2.8L II lens and some additional detail work with the 100mm macro. Shooting on film brings a timeless quality to these images, celebrating the natural beauty of the light, the location, and Kushi’s effortless presence. If you’re curious about the other equipment and film stocks I use, you can find this via the link at Georges Cameras. These stocks are perfect for capturing natural, timeless images.
