Creative Project:

(Print) Magazine.

This is for collaborating with me on this project, I am now working on Issue Two.

If you’re after purchasing an issue you can jump here and checkout online. Note each issue volume is a limited run. My goal is to break even not to sell mass quantities.

FIRSTLY, I want to say thank you for considering joining me on this journey. I know print projects can be pretty daunting in the digital world, and I felt the best way to give you a sense of what this would look like would be to offer a look into how I want this to look and feel.

I want this project to be something you can call your own. Work you’re proud of being a part of, so whilst all of these contain my vision, I very much want you to decide for yourself how you want to be presented.

Regarding that, I hope you can help me choose how you’re presented and work with you to create work you’re proud of. It represents you, so you should feel that these photos do that.

To be transparent, I will be selling the magazine (referred to as zine below), but the aim is not to profit but to break even. This is self-published, and small volume, and done for the sake of art.

Each issue will cost between $800-$2000 to print; I am happy to offer a 12.5% stake if we oversell. To give you an idea, I’d have to sell 250 issues to generate $200 of profit. I want to make you feel like it’s a fair trade. One of the primary things for me is I want you to feel good about the shots. You can also sign off on the proofing before we go to print.

To give you some idea Issue 1. Cost $7000 after all production costs were included on film, and production costs.

USAGE will be limited to the zine; at some point, I will look to sell larger prints. I would offer a much more significant stake of at least 30%, but I won’t be asking you to sign a release form at this time for that; if we do, we will talk about it when I’m ready, and you can always say no. Your consent is essential.

The thming for no. 2 is quite dark, moody, and intimate; if you are keen, I believe the best work is a collaboration, not just a photographer telling models what to do.

The important bits:

For many of you, this is the first time coming across my work. I want a few things laid out really clearly. I will not be shooting anyone under the age of eighteen for this project. On top of this, I have a few pieces of paperwork that are important for you to read/understand.

Duty Of Care

Please check the brief and references before the shoot carefully, and flag or highlight anything that you are unsure of. Shoots should be something you’re excited for, not something you feel wary of.

If there’s a shot you’re not comfortable, a look or clothes you don’t want to wear, or generally you have a bad feeling, or you feel something is wrong. Please let me, the make up artist, studio manager or call your agent. You can always walk off set if something isn’t right.

My biggest rule is you walk away from a shoot feeling good about the work. Shoots are a collaborative effort. You are always welcome to bring a friend, and they are welcome to be on set at all times. There will always be a private space for changing, a bathroom, as well as food and water can be provided.

My sets are meant to be safe environments, and I have this here as an important first step to make sure you feel safe and listened to.

Posting Guide

With the goals of this print publication, most of the photos are designed for offline usage only. I will always check with you first before posting anything procative, you are always welcome to ask for an image to be removed, whether it’s a day, week, or years after the fact. Your body is yours, and I do not wish to exploit you, or make your life difficult, and have included this guide, so that you always feel like you can talk to me. These are designed for single print circulation (reprints will be subject to your approval).

I will not use your image outside of this publication without written consent for commerical usage; if any image was to run for prints, etc, you would ultimately get creative control and approval in this process, I will never run advertisements or give brands shoots without speaking to you first, and usually compensating you financially. You can always turn these offers down again, the point of having this in writing is to stop either of us being exploited.

If for whatever reason, the images are not run for magazine usage, they are not for public consumption without prior approval, the aim of this is to keep these primarily offline. Failure to comply with the posting guide will result in a full commercial day fee of $4500 charged. This might seem a steep fee, unfortunately, I’ve had images used in ads without prior approval, and the rules are here to protect both of us and allow for compensation.
