Heidi Pollock @ Sunrise
Model: Heidi Pollock
I initially tried getting this shoot published a few times. I’ve always struggled with getting my stuff out there in syndication. To be honest, a lot of the time, I feel it’s pretty exploitive. I ran a photography collective, and whilst we never paid for the content on the website, I used our work to get us all paid work taking the sort of photos we loved. Which I honestly think is the way it should be.
There are a few exceptions to the rule, but we have these online tools like Instagram and Tumblr and Pinterest. It makes magazine production entirely frivolous; it really has to be incredible. You’re giving your work away often for free for a magazine credit and access to an audience that probably will only see your work once so that a magazine can pay itself. I think the business model for magazines is reasonably dead. I say all this out of frustration though, I want to get my work into your hands.
Maybe I’ll do a zine or too instead. I will continue to buy publications I love, though. I think print is so beautiful.
I think I’ll probably run some of these in print at some point. After Heidi and I figure that out.
Anyway, here are some of my best images from last Summer.
I believe this is some of my best work. I felt very at peace, and we knew what we were trying to create. It wasn’t pushed or forced, and it took the exact right amount of time. When the final roll of film reset back into the canister, I didn’t feel like we’d missed something. It felt perfect.
